Help on the "Borderline"

Post by Brendan Mitchell »

I'm after some info concerning the soundtrack to a movie called I think "Borderline" starring Jack Nicholson as a border patrol cop.The title song was sung again I think by Freddy Fender and I think the music was written by Ry Cooder.Did Ry sing that song on his album "Borderline"?Did Freddy sing it?Do they Both do it?
Regards Brendan.

GREAT soundtrack - not available on CD, sadly, as far as I can tell. Cooder did a version on one album, but not Borderline - I think it was the Get Rhythm album (with one verse in Spanish sung by actor Harry Dean Stanton). The song is actually called Across the Borderline. John Hiatt, who co-wrote it with Cooder, does it with Flaco Jimenez on an album called Partners, and Willie Nelson did it on an album *called* Across the Borderline... The original soundtrack also has a great version of the Burritos' song Building Fires, and a Cooderized Western Swing track called Texas Bop...
More than you ever wanted to know, right Image
Nick
P.S. Bob Dylan also does the song live sometimes

Ry Cooder released a 2-CD set ~4 years ago of nothing but his soundtracks. Music from the Border, Paris, TX, and others. I forget the name of it right now, but it's really great.
