Salon Magazine has a brief yet richly detailed article on Merle Haggard as part of their Brilliant Careers series.
There's nothing particularly new for dedicated Hag fanatics but for a mainstream, non-music publication the article shows surprising depth and a real sensitivity for its subject. Besides, any mainstream article that mentions both Ralph Mooney and Norm Hamlet (and not to mention spells them correctly) is both a rare and wonderful thing.
Hag's two-word description of today's Nashville artists is priceless and is vintage Merle. And the quotation which closes the article strikes home, as well. This is a very well-written piece. Definitely worth a quick look.
Regards,
Jeff
