Dancing in the lounge

I was in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. Stayed at Arizona Charlie's. The Checkmates were playing there. I remember them from the late 60's, and there are still two original members: Sonny Charles, and Sweet Louie. The bandstand is only a foot high, and dancers are bopping up and down in front of the seated audience. To me, old Lounge Lizard that I am, the words lounge and dance DO NOT belong in the same sentence. Talking with Sweet Louie, I asked him how he felt about dancers in the lounge, since he has played Vegas for so many years. He said he wished the dance floor was off to the side because "We're a show band". There are "show bands" and "dance bands". What is your preference? If you have a relationship with your audience, does it bother you to be separated from them by dancers?

I fail to see the difference....

If the band looks good,plays good, it's a treat. They are both !!

I love it when people want to get up and dance. It means you've touched their soul.

I agree with Ric that seeing somebody dancing to your music would make you happy.

But I also agree with Dayna that in this particular setting, some people came to SEE and hear the band, and don't appreciate dancers blocking their view. Having dancers blocking your view for a song or two out of a set is one thing -- but to have them there for most of the show is quite another.

A separate area for the dancers would seem an appropriate solution.

Dayna: You can verify that I have been to both stages at Arizina Charlie's as well as a lot of places in Austin. My delema is when the dance floor is in front of the stage and I'm ducking dancers to get picture's
I will say that if I go to see an act I'm not the type to dance. However most of the acts I see encourage dancing (two step not line dancing.

If I realy want to see an act I will try to seat myself accordingly.
