Bob Gallion

Post by Dave Van Allen »

a while back there was a thread on Sad C&W songs- one on my list was "Six Pall Bearers" which I mistakenly attributed to Charlie Walker- it was a feller named Bob Gallion (sp?) who recorded that one. Does anybody have any info on Bob? is he still living, working? where'd he hail from? other "hits"?

Dave, I am not sure if it is the same guy or not but when I was stationed in Viet Nam in 1969 I met a guy who was related to a country artist from Ohio with the same name...I seen a few promotion things on the guy and he had a traveling Fair type country show at that time...That might be the person you are talking about...Have not heard anything about him since then though...

gallion recorded over 20 singles and two lps in a twenty plus year career beginning in 1955/56 for mgm records.

most of his singles were on hickory. six pallbearers dates from 1961 or 62 on hickory 1145. sad to hear he has passed away. a good singer.

One of the early MGM records that I remember by Bob was,"My Square-Dancin' Mama's Done Learned To Rock'n Roll",(circa '55) but it was "hard" country.I was a "deejay" back then,& that's the first record I remember by him. I have about 4 or 5 of his Hickory Records.
