Motorcycle Cowboy

Post by Theresa Galbraith »

I've been seeing this video on CMT and I guess ole Merle left Norm out. Pretty good guitar playing and horn though. I'm just surprised he's so looked up to as a country traditionalist. Theresa

Hey Theresa,
If you really listen to the song, it sounds just like a Jimmie Rogers tune. How much more "tradtional" can the man get? Haggard personifies tradation.

Theresa, that's one of 18 or 19 songs on the Live at Billy Bob's Texas CD. Give it a listen and you'll no longer be "surprised" about Merle's traditionalist reputation. You'll also see that after the other tunes, Norm probably needed a breather. Image

Robbie is right. The strong beat gives it a modern edge, but the vocals say "Singing Brakeman". (Now don't tell the folks at CMT about that.)

What, you don't think that lead guitar sounds traditionally country? Fat and clean!

What I was referring to,was no steel on this song!
Yes, I'm married to one of the best guitar players in Nashville and he may be considered a traditionalist! Theresa
[This message was edited by Theresa Galbraith on 22 March 2000 at 12:54 PM.]

Theresa, is that the same guy who played lead on "You Take Me For Granted" for ole Hag? Image

We do agree, by the way, that some up front steel on MC Cowboy would be an improvement...

I was just admiring sone of Gregg's stuff on BE's Swingin' Our Way. Although I wish I could pan out the vocals...

Thanks,
I love Gregg's playing and I don't praise him enough. He played on "You Take Me For Granted"!

I hope Merle's next release will let the steel shine! Theresa
[This message was edited by Theresa Galbraith on 22 March 2000 at 10:04 PM.]
