B-Bb split tuned w/A-pedal

Post by Bengt Erlandsen »

Using the split tunned B-Bb together w A+Bpedal to get a minor chord is used a lot.
Using it together w Apedal and strings 1 & 2 to get a minor w/b5 or diminished voicing might not be that common but it can help connect chords in nearby positions.
Here is an example going from G to F#dim Em D C and ending in G. I used the chords like that to show how the positions relate to each other. The "L" on the 2nd string in the tab means half-step lower to D(open string)

<font face="monospace" size="2"><pre>
F#-----------6---6---5---5------------------------3--------------
D#-----------6-------5L-----------------------------3------------
G#----6---6------------------------------------------------------
E ----6R---------------------5---5---3---3---3L~3~~~---3~~~~~~---
B ----6A-----6a------5-------5A------3A------3~~~~~~---3~~~~~~---
G#------------|--------------5B------3B------3B~~~~~---3~~~~~~---
F#------------|--------------------------------------------------
E ------------|--------------------------------------------------
D ------------|--------------------------------------------------
B ------------|--------------------------------------------------
split tuned
</pre></font>

The whole example can also be played using only strings 4 5 & 6 starting at 10 fret using the available A B C pedals, B-Bb and E's to Eb but that will sound slightly different and allow for more slides between the chords. Knowing two ways is a lot better and will help in not getting lost because chords are everywhere to be found.
