Has anyone tabbed the solo yet for A.J's Remember When? Getting lots of requests for the song but the break needs some serious work before I do it on stage.

What a beautiful steel break!Hats off to Paul Franklin on a fantastic steel solo!My question is "How can I fake it properly on the standard Nashville steel tuning!Franklin has a different set up on his string changes compared to mine.Can anyone out there post a rendition of tab to this solo that is in the standard steel tuning and still do justice to the original solo?

Jay it was Lloyd Green not Paul on this one.SOOOOO a standard E9 will do just perfect.You'll need to lower your 2nd string a full step.I'll bet you already do that and theirs one bar slant that comes to mind.

Good Grief! I ran out and bought the CD as soon as it came out, ran home and put it on and nearly died! LLoyd only plays ONE cut on the whole damn thing. What are these crazy SOBs thinking in Nashville. Turn him loose to play like he did yrs ago and we'll hear some steel playing that is inovative and with feeling, not the same vanilla crap! Same thing, only worse, happened on Alan's Christmas album. Lloyd recorded some great tracks that were never used.

If you guys will send me an email, I do have a Tab for the turnaround that is pretty close. I am not sure how to post it and there are movements in Lloyd's playing that I can not duplicate, but I will be glad to share what I have.

It's interesting to note that the song starts in G, the steel solo is in C, then the song moduates up to A .

I justed wanted to let everyone know that Ricky has spoken to Lloyd concerning this tab and it has inspired him to post his own version, and of course we all know that it will be dead on the money. So this will stay up, but Lloyd will be giving the exact tab to Ricky in the next few days to post.

It is exciting to have a Tab from Lloyd himself and I can't wait to see how he played this magnificent turnaround.

So, where is the tab going to be put up, once it is done? Is he putting in up here, or on Rebel/Ricky?

Seems like it would have to be different, since I thought lloyd didn't lower the e's with a knee lever... I had heard someone talking about slants being used.

FWIW, the Alan Jackson record this cut is on is a greatest hits record. I think "Remember When" is the only new song on the record.

Is this no longer current? It's the tuning b0b has up, from the Winston book, regarding Lloyd's copedant. Unless something has changed, this makes special note of him not having the E lower for the fourth string...

I want to try to clear up the confusion. Lloyd contacted Ricky Davis after seeing the TAB and commented on the fact that he still does not lower the high e string with his knee lever. He still uses the 2nd string to get that note. He wants to post the tab so we can all see how he played it. I for one, am most anxious to see it and hopefully to learn some new things from one of the greats of the steel guitar.

Ricky did not indicate where it would be posted. I am assuming that it would be here.

To further along the clearing up of the confusion that Mark has already spoke of..ha...>
Yes Lloyd does not lower the 4th string...and has stayed with the same setup as posted above...for his whole Career.
Lloyd and I spoke for a good hour on the phone talking about this; as he really wants to help in the confusion of how this solo was actually played. You'll say to yourself as I did after hearing it...:" Well that sounds like he play these strings here and that there..etc.." but when you see the tab that I will do from Lloyd talking me through it; you will then scratch your head and say: "I would of never thought that in a million years; that he played that there and did this here"..
I've tabbed many things that make more sense to the way we all play and are used to executing and if it was a clip from Lloyd or Jimmy Day; than most likely it is NOT the exact way they played it..ha. Mainly because many of us do not have the setup that Lloyd or Jimmy or Mooney play; so I'll make it more playable by our current standard. But I also eluded to the fact last year that it is almost impossible to capture the inflections and movements through meausure and time; with the likes of Mr. Green and Jimmy Day. But This particular Solo has to be played with the right string textures and movement from those piculiar string grip combinations that Lloyd has used and played for years; that to me, makes and has always made his playing and recording, so very original and unique and undefinably "Lloyd Green".
Sure you can voice this here and voice that there and may be the same notes and movement..>BUT as what me and Lloyd talked about was the Texture of the exact strings he played that is so important to help connecting the player, in learning from tab to try and capture as closly as possible; the emotion of an exact piece.
So I'm going to tab this solo from Lloyd's direction.....and of course we'll post in on the Greatest sound clip and Tab site archived for every steel player..>The "Rebel and Ricky and Jeff" sound clip and Tablature website...> And we'll direct everyone from here to there...and probably put it up here for quickness at some point...
Ok I'm out of breath..ha..More later.
Oh and Lloyd is Soooo excited to do this...as he is not much on doing/writing tab as he's never really had to use it; so that makes it another language for him...>as why I'll do the tabbing part...but I will be directed by Lloyd..ah..ha... as he really loves and wants to help all that desires.

Just an added note, I obviously had some difficulty in getting it all to line up. I spent more time trying to correct the lining up issue then it took me to tab it out. Anyway, on the third line where you see 8 & 6, they should be picked and or sustained together. The last line I see where the number 13 doesn't line up, they are played together too.
