Could someone please post the most used 7th positions you use going to a 4 chord or back to the 1 chord.
Thanks in advance

Here's one that Lloyd Green frequently uses. It's going from E7 to A.

Here's a couple I heard Steve Palousek use.
The first string raise F# to G#.

1--8R~~10R~~10---
2----------------
3--8~~~10~~~10B-- (A7)
4----------------
5--8~~~10~~~10A--

3--8~~8B---11---
4--8~~8L-------- (C7)
5----------11---

These are great fellow & keep them coming (BUT) I am looking for for positions on the neck where the seventh chords are located. Say if I use the key of C I know where a couple are but I am looking for some more.

Jim, the three most-common positions would be at the chord, pedals up, using the 9th string; pedals down, two frets below the chord lowering the 4th and 8th strings; and pedals up, three frets above the chord raising the 4th and 8th strings. But bear in mind that all you need for the flavor of a dominant chord is the 3rd and flatted 7th, the 5th and flatted 7th of the chord, the 7th and the 9th, or even just the 7th; and these can be found in innumerable positions. For example, Jimmy Day, to play a D7 as a II chord, frequently used the third fret and the B and C pedals. He's subbing an Am for the D7, but it does contain the 5th (A) and the flatted 7th (C) of the D7. The E, the ninth of the D7 scale, adds to the dominant quality of the chord. I hope this helps.

Thanks all. Dave I need you living next door to me. To summarize if I am playing a 7th scale these are the three main intervals I would use to develop this scale? I think I have had to learn more about music theory in this last year(Trying to play this steel) Than this old Hillbilly has learned in 25 years of playing bass.

Jim, I recommend Buddy Emmons' E9 Chord Dictionary. It's good, thorough and inexpensive. Regarding music theory, I believe a Forum member has a book out on the subject. Also, your local junior college probably offers classes of beginning theory every semester or quarter. That's where I learned it--cough!--years ago. They'll also teach you to sight read, sight sing, take music dictation, all invaluble skills to have.
