Dobro Model question

Post by Tom Hackett »

I have had this Dobro for 30+ years. I tried to figure out what the serial number is telling me and I can't figure it out. I'll try to post a picture of it and the headplate with the numbers.

It's numbers on top are only 8 1105 OB

I really like it and the designs and inlays are really sharp. It's a round neck. Anybody have an idea of what it is? I see Lily of the Valley all of it, but the ones I Googled don't have the same fretboard. I thin the B stands for made in the 1980's, but not sure. I get it that the B on the end means brass too, but still have questions. Can any of you help? Thanks so much. Tom

'80s would be my guess as well. The leading digit typically represents the year, so 1988 is most likely.

Based on this catalog from around that time, it appears to be a Model 75.

Here's the deal:

8 = decade (1980s)
1105= serial number for the year
0 = the year in the 80's, so it's a 1980.
B = metal body, possibly short for bell brass, but wood body Dobros in the OMI era had the letter D for wood. Go figure.

As written by Noah it's a Model 75, and was made in Huntington Beach, California.

The Model 75 or "Lily of the Valley" didn't always have the same fretboard.
