Black Diamond steel guitar strings.

Post by Jimmy Gibson »

Sorry for the long post .But I am getting very frustrated because sets of steel guitar strings are very expensive in the UK So Could someone maybe help me out please? It's for some reason i have been having problems with a few sets of certain popular brands of strings, when i put a new set on each of my necks of my steel, they sounded terrible and would not stay in tune , so i thought maybe i have got a bad couple of sets of strings so i replaced them again with a couple of new sets same problem ,i have been playing steel for a very long time and never had any problems before using the brands before , Another steel player i know told me to try some Black Diamond i know they make normal electric guitar strings ,but i have never ever heard of the brand making steel guitar sets , so i thought i would ask if any one had used them and what was their opinion?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I haven't used them myself, but here's their web page:

What type of pedal steel are you using? Are you having the tuning problems with just a specific string (for example, the high G# or the low F#)? Have you tried just changing the gauges for the specific strings that bother you, or is this an overall issue?

The Black Diamond name was revived and back in production a few years back at which time they started offering pedal steel sets. I have their guitar strings, but never used the pedal steel sets. I don't find much difference in the guitar sets compared to D'Addarios that I normally use.

They are available here in the forum store it appears if you want to try some. I assume they ship internationally.

Amazon UK sells GHS pedal steel sets for just over 10 GBP, Thomann has them for less than 12 GBP (plus several other brands). Doesn't sound "very expensive" to me.

John Davi’s sells SIT strings on the UK forum at unbeatable prices. Better than paying for the Amazon Guy’s spaceship!
