Head cab for Twin Reverb
How tall should I make my head cab to accommodatethe reverb tank? All the after-market ones I see are barely tall enough to accommodate the tubes.. let alone the reverb tank, which I think should have some clearance
from the transformer.
Thoughts from folks that have done it?
TIA

Re: Head cab for Twin Reverb
Yeah, you gotta be careful...I had a BF Twin chassis put into a head cab and never could use the reverb because the tank was too close to the electronics and it caused a horrible hum!If you are determined to use the tank, you should maybe build the head cab to the same height as a Dual Showman Reverb...I've never used one, but I expect Fender built that amp(basically a TR in a piggyback format)to a height that eliminated the hum...only downside is that the DSR head is almost as tall as a Fender combo amp!Dave Meis wrote: 4 Jan 2026 1:21 pm How tall should I make my head cab to accommodatethe reverb tank? Re: Head cab for Twin Reverb
I found that when I built a few head cabinets, placement of the tank was crucial. I think mine were 10 inches. Experimenting with placement while it's all powered up and choosing the location with the least amount of hum.
In some cases, rotating the tank 180° might be necessary. I forget whether it's input or output side, but one of them needs to be furthest away from the transformer.

@ Rollin: Do you have any hum at 8”?
Would there be a way to shield it? Say, like the thin plate on the top of the chassis part of the combo cab, but above the tank?

You could install the tank in the speaker cab. Have done that successfully. The tank is already shielded by the metal housing that holds the springs . Jerry

Just be sure the input to the reverb tank is at opposite end from the power transformer and you will be fine.

Been using it about four years and it’s quiet as a mouse. Then again I might be deaf from sitting in front of that thing

Re: Head cab for Twin Reverb
Another consideration:
I was looking at the head cabs by Mojo, and they list a cab for a BF Twin. I called them, and the guy seemed to think there was a difference between the BF & SF concerning the mounting straps.
Has anyone put a SF in one of the Mojo cabs? Seems like an AB 763 would be the same..
Thoughts?

SF and BF use the same chassis so yes, same chassis straps.

@ Raybob:
He was thinking that the 3 screw lip at the back of the chassis pan required the holes to be maybe a 1/4”-1/2” different from front to back. The hole spacing is the same, but the location front to back was the issue … I don’t know, but he said he’d send me a diagram.. we’ll see.
Edit to add:
The SF has the 3 screw holes..

Re: Head cab for Twin Reverb
I am thinking about doing this with my Twin. Can anyone recommend someone that can build one?

Mojotone builds them.

I have one that is older but essentially new. Never been used. I can sell it for $250 plus shipping from South Lake Tahoe, CA. PM or email me if interested.

Re: Head cab for Twin Reverb
Check out the tall Dual-Showman Reverb cabinet. Mount everything just like Fender and you will have no hum or electronic interference. The DSR is a Twin in a head cabinet done correctly. If Fender could have gotten away with something smaller they would have done so to save money on materials.

Re: Head cab for Twin Reverb
That's my experience... back in my hack-butcher days I added reverb to one of my BF Bassmen... never could get away from the hum. That Mojotone cab looks too small.Matthew Dawson wrote: 15 Jan 2026 12:15 am Check out the tall Dual-Showman Reverb cabinet. Too much junk to list... always getting more.

Re: Head cab for Twin Reverb
I get it -"real Fender spring reverb",,, However, if you put your Twin head is a plain old "small" Showman type cab, and just put a modern digital reverb in the signal chain, it will sound every but as good with a lot less hassle.. At stage volume, todays digital reverbs even cheap ones sound just as nice as "real spring, tube driven reverb".. I've A'B them along with an expert, and neither of us could tell the difference... It would save you headaches in size and weight, and proximity hum.. Its only my opinion, but I would just forget the spring reverb, go digital, and enjoy your nicely portable tube head....bob

A knockoff off the old Fender tube reverb that looked like a little amp and sat on top of your Bassman,Showman, whatever amp you had that didn't have built in reverb...love it!
