5 Minute tips for Hawaiian Steel Guitar #2
Steve Dawson has started a weekly series of short Hawaiian steel guitar lesson videos on YouTube. Look for a new lesson every Tuesday.
Some folks have been asking me to do a few videos on Hawaiian steel guitar, so I thought I'd maybe try and blast a quick 5 minute one out each week for a while and see if it's of any interest. It's hard to get a point across in 5 minutes, but I'll give it a whirl for a while each Tuesday.
Here's the second one. It's a little right hand technique that gets a lot of airtime in the playing of Sol Hoopii, Sol K. Bright and King Bennie Nawahi.
I'm using open G tuning for this (DGDGBD Low to High) but this would also apply to the high-bass tuning, or Dobro tuning (GBDGBD). Enjoy!

Steve's lessons are a fantastic resource for those of us who love the pre-war Hawaiian style. His lessons also have the potential to introduce others to the steel guitar. If you have a moment, please support Steve by giving this lesson a viewing and a thumbs-up. Also, maybe consider leaving a comment and/or subscribing to his channel. Thanks!
