Video - C6 Lap Steel Solo - Summertime 2014
This is a C6 lap steel solo from my 2014 video of "Summertime". I just cut a Short of the solo for YouTube.
The backing track is a jazz-flavored track that I got from YouTube. I usually play this tune much slower and with different chords, but I thought it would be fun to play over this quirky track.

Excellent as always Doug!
You have really great tone. I'm asking Santa for you to do a video breaking down your signal chain and settings.

Re: Video - C6 Lap Steel Solo - Summertime 2014

guitar - Black Box (tube filter) - Goodrich volume pedal - Peavey Nashville 112 amp - line out to computer - line in to computer. Recording on Audacity software. Monitor through a small pair of Behringer powered speakers. I wasn’t using an interface in 2014. Just recorded line in to the computer.
The old Gibson has a pre-P-90 “racetrack” (oval) pickup, which is especially warm and has a bit of growl.
My current setup is:
guitar - Black Box - Quilter 202 amp head - “signal out” of the amp - to volume pedal - to Focusrite interface. Recording on Audacity software. Monitor through a small pair of powered speakers.
Notice that I now put the volume pedal after the amp head… for direct recording only. So the signal from guitar and black box goes directly into the amp… and then into the volume pedal. Lastly into the interface. I’m not using a cabinet, so the amp makes no sound. The mixed sound comes from the powered speakers on the computer.
I wouldn’t recommend this setup for everyone, but it’s a system I came up with because I can’t make a lot of noise in the house. When I record, the only sound I hear comes from the speakers on the computer… so it’s not loud at all.
I think I used a small amount of delay on this video. That would be a Boss DD-6 after the volume pedal. Nowadays I might patch the delay into the effects loop of the 202 head, or add delay in the Audacity software.

I’m playing Eadd9 tuning on “Half As Much”

I’ve recorded a couple of other songs in this tuning. It’s an easy re-tune from C6 tuning. I’ve never seen this tuning listed anywhere, although I’m sure others have used it and may have called it something else. I call it Eadd9. It might also be called Eadd2. It wouldn’t be E9 IMO because there’s no D in it.

Really nice, Doug. Great tone and I dig that ascending triplet lick.
