Graceful Ghost Rag new track, new album

Post by Mike Neer »

This is Graceful Ghost Rag, composed by William Bolcom (1970), a piece that has haunted me for a long time and which I finally got around to finishing my arrangement and recording of. This is the first completed track from my next album, Nosteelgia.

Life events have shifted my focus, and the rigors of arranging and performing this music are pretty intense, but I am determined to make this record my best.

My Clinesmith cast aluminum really sounds good to me on this, though it has been quite a long time since I’ve changed my strings. Maybe that is part of the appeal, I don’t know. Actually my bass has had the same strings on it for about 15 years. :whoa:

A lot of times I post tunes and get responses like “keep pushing the envelope” or something like that, but that isn’t my intention at all. I just want to record music that appeals to me and hopefully others, especially those not even familiar with the steel guitar. We can’t let steel guitar only exist in the context of traditional styles, especially when those styles move away from the instrument. If there is music you love and you can envision steel guitar in it, make it happen in any way possible. I’m hoping you give this music a chance.

Listening is free, and I hope you listen with some earbuds or headphones, I am pretty happy with the sound.
