Fender Double Stringmaster vs Professional
Is there a better or worse sounding guitar? I have the Fender ‘56 Fender Double Stringmaster with the shorter scale. I like it ok, and it is in mint condition, but I am looking at trading in for a Fender ‘54 Double professional with the longer scale. I am going to play it to see if there is a difference. I have a National Double6 1961 that is the longer scale and it sounds awesome as does my Double Vega, (also with the longer scale)I am wondering if it is the scale size of my Stringmaster that’s bugging me about the sound. What are the opinions out there, and which Fender (Stringmaster vs Professional) has a better resale value? (Assuming similar conditions) thanks

It has been my experience that the Stringmaster has a broader range of tone by virtue of two pickups and the blend wheel as well as volume and tone control. Scale length? I prefer the sound of a long scale and the playability of a short scale. So I have more than one lap steel.

I wasn’t aware of a fender dual professional with a longer scale.

I was incorrect. When I went to look at it, it was, in fact a shorter scale. Thanks

I’m pretty sure that all the Dual Pros made were 22 1/2” Scale. Yes the Stringmaster is more tweakable tonewise. They were made in longer and shorter Scale versions, I believe. If you like the sound of the Dual Pro though, it’s less important. I like them just fine.
