What pedals do you use in you Pedal Steel Setup”?
Do any of you Talented Pedal Steel Guitarist’s use any of the Strymon Pedals? For instance, the “Big Sky” or the “Volante” or maybe the “Timeline”? What’s your thoughts on these if you are currently using them? Ive heard the Strymon Pedals can’t be beat where Quality is concerned…that they are the Best! Im thinking of adding either the Timeline or the Volante to my setup, (I’m really into Ambient sounds and music where their are no vocals Or only sounds.) Also has anyone experimented with Looper Pedals? and if so, how are you using them?
Thanks Everyone for Responding!

I use both on my board. They work great and are really tweakable to your taste. The spring on the Volante is quite nice and you can go ambient for days with the Big Sky, can’t go wrong with the Strymon stuff, top tier pedals.

The Strymon pedals are of very high quality. Worth the extra cost. As you can see I use both the blueSky reverb and the Lex for that Hammond B-3 Leslie sound.

I like the El Capistan for delay. It really does great emulations of tape units. You can get that slap back sound really easy, and even the more out there settings can be dialed back to be subtle and usable for a wide range of things.

Re: What pedals do you use in you Pedal Steel Setup”?
After decades of mostly using amp reverb alone I finally broke down and built a pedal board last season, inspired by the work of NW guitarist/pedal board guru Chance Hayden, and the needs of the many genres I am able to indulge in these days.
No Strymon here (yet) but everything has a purpose and fits where I can reach it. Signal flow is right to left feeding the SuperBlock. The Quilter reverb is always on, and I add the Wampler and/or ~340ms delay ahead of it for extra wetness, quick and easy.
The Jackson Silvertone is a sleeper, set up to run clean as shown it adds a bit of midrange edge that cuts through the mix when the pure steel is sounding thin, crank the gain and it wails like Elmore James through a dimed Gibson EH-150. Its added harmonic content gives the Electro-Harmonix C9 extra meat also.
I use the Keeley as a signal leveler/limiter between it and the C9, as the C9 is a touchy beast but full of delight when I feed it well. Delay and verb pedals chosen mostly for true-bypass, quality build and fit as they merely augment the Quilter reverb, the phaser that feeds them is the only pedal I rarely use, although it can def add a helpful element to Pink Floyd covers.

Re: What pedals do you use in you Pedal Steel Setup”?
There are twin Reverbs for true stereo as most reverb pedals mix to mono when going to the tank. The Brig is the delay and its tap speed is controlled via a Strymon mini switch on the guitar leg. (which can be tapped with your knee)
Dual feeds from the Telonics vol pedal to the JHS switches in the C9 / Lex combo when needed. This a JHS loop switcher controlled by the red button. The whole board, except C9 is controlled via MIDI from the Morning Star on the steel leg. (The C9 is not MDI and also is not relay switched, so has its own loop )
THe EL Cap has reverb as well as delay so there is backup if needed and allows the dual delay effect if wanted. The Iridum can be patched if need to feed the house system or for recording. Power is from Zuma and Ojai.
Amps are Telonics or Little Walter 100’s. All cables are custom made and are cut to exact length to help setup in dark stage areas. Guitars are Zum D10’s or Excel D10’s. .

What pedals do I use in my pedal steel setup? Only one like this (but I'm nothing if not old school):

I’ve been using an old Prescription Electronics Germ as a buffer. I was using a Freeloader before, but the Excel doesn’t need it the way the ZB did.
I use a Caroline Meteore for reverb, which is pretty much the opposite of the smooth Strymon sound. It’s lo-fi with a pronounced slap echo on top of the reverb. Amazing for an old-school sound.
And I occasionally use a JHS Plugin (Bosstone clone) for fuzz.

Proud caveman here, Ernie Ball VP Junior volume pedal and MXR Distortion Plus for "nasty" tone and Fender amps w/JBL's pushing pure spring reverb. Hooked on "surf " instrumental tones since early '60s. Listen to Emmons' tone on Nightlife album...I rest my case.
Retired my "Flying Pro III" playin' gigs with the "little bud" in the Northern Shenandoah Valley.

Zoom MS50g and a Boss GE7 for dobro effect. I never liked the Zoom effect pedals in the past but this MS50 does everything I need and more and I am pretty picky. There is a learning cure on every pedal, this one is not to bad, but you have to want to “get there”. If anyone needs help just call me.
'70 D10 Black fatback Emmons PP, Hilton VP, BJS 3 1/2” long bar, Boss GE-7 for Dobro effect, Zoom MS50G, Quilter Toneblock 202 and TT 15 cab, Joyo Ebow, Sarno Earth Drive Mini

Speaking of Strymon, I’m using the Zuma and Ojai power supplies in my FX rack. Super solid, clean and quiet, never had a problem in 7 years.

Goodrich and Hilton volume pedals, a Keeley Halo Core (https://robertkeeley.com/product/new-halo-core/), and then built-in pedals on the amps for noise filter, EQ, and room sounds.

At the moment, I'm just using an old Prescription Electronics Germ for a buffer/sweetener, and a Caroline Meteore for a lo-fi reverb with a hint of slapback echo. I may go back to a phaser and a fuzz as well, but we'll see.

Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright. Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto Him a new song, chant well unto Him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all His works are in faithfulness. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.

Re: What pedals do you use in you Pedal Steel Setup”?
On the floor, I have a StroboStomp and a Hilton volume pedal. A Steel Guitar Black Box Mini and a TONEX One are clipped to the right leg of my guitar. I can easily access four presets of my TONEX One with my fingers. They include a Twin Reverb with reverb, a Twin Reverb with reverb and delay,
a Nashville 400 with Leslie, and a Matchbro. I power my TONEX One with a phone battery backup that is the size of a travel toothpaste. It fits in my seat, and most of my effects pedals collect dust. I have requested that Joe Rogers make a preset of the Earth Drive (I purchased one). I have gone directly to the PA with the TONEX One, but I prefer a Fender FR-12 as both a monitor and an amplifier.

Re: What pedals do you use in you Pedal Steel Setup”?
I have an El Capistan, I got it for doing slapback on guitar. I really liked it at first, but I found it has this weird digital chorusing kind of sound to it I could never dial out. I messed with all the settings, including the second bank, and never got rid of it. It was subtle but always there. I ended up not using it and got a cheap delay off Amazon I like better for slapback.
On the steel, I use the Wet reverb.
When I need OD, I use a Kingsley Harlot pedal. Great tube OD pedal. I have one on my guitar board and one loose to take to jams or recording or whatever. I have used it on steel, and it works great.
