Rondo SX eight lap steel and palm benders

Post by Jim Smerk »

Hello, does anyone know if you can put palm benders on an SX eight lap steel? The bridge is totally different than most, so I’m just wondering…

Thanks!! :D

Yes, You very much will be able to put palm benders on the SX, Here's a couple of other people that did it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJm39hQT0kg Troy discusses how he did it to his SX at about 6 minuets into this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3IXzT_up4k. My main Steel is also the SX 8 string, I think it's a really good lap steel, I honestly would be fine with performing with it, that P90 pup has a great tone!

Aloha Jim,

I put a Duesenberg Multibender on a 6 string SX steel, and it works well.

From the videos Riggs provided, it proves that you can use the stock bridge.

That said, you could order an 8 string roller nut from certano.

A Roller bridge would provide better tuning stability and less string wear, but the stock bridge would work if you just want to practice.

If you eventually get good, and want to gig with your steel, installing a roller bridge would be advisable. You wouldn’t want a string breaking during a performance.
Aloha,

Mike K
