Planet Waves cable by the foot

Post by Roger Crawford »

I have some D’Addario plugs and need to make a couple of cables, but can’t locate a source that sells Planet Waves cable by the foot. Does anyone know who I can contact for that?

I have not found the cable available by the foot. May want contact D'Addario direct.

D'Addario makes a kit called DIY Solderless Cable Kit. It contains 10 solderless plugs,(Some straight, Some 90 degree), 40 ft. of .240 Cable, Mini Cable Cutter and Screwdriver.

I needed to replace all my Steel Cables. I bought the kit and 2 more straight plugs.

I cut the 40 foot cable into 3 equal lengths. App. 13' 4" in length. Then cut each into a 10' 2" and a 3' 2" cable. Installed a straight and a 90 degree plug on each. Built 3 sets cables. 1 for my seat and 2 here at home. Had no problem with them gigging last summer. The plug screws have a stop so the screw goes to an exact stop.

Lot better plug than old George L plugs. Tightened them to tight would short the plug.

PS. Seen a picture of Gene Watson/Boo Millers new Emmons with 1 of the cable ends sticking out of the guitar.

At the suggestion of another forum member I started building my cables using this Canare product.
High quality and also available.

Greg, I read a review on the GS-6 that said the cable darkened up their tone. I know that it’s subjective, but have you noticed any change in tone?

I don't remember if the tone was darkened by the Canare cables. The signal is quite a bit clearer compared to the off shelf cables I used previously. I use Nuetrik connectors with the Canare cable.

Pretty pricey, but lately I bought a couple of "Rattlesnake" brand cables.... I also selected Neutrik ends. They sound great, and look indestructible.

Also, you can order whatever length, and straight/45 ends, ect. Nice for pedal steel.

Small company in Montana. Great to do business with.
