Kika Kila (Hawaiian Steel Guitar)
This book was recommended to me by Alan Akaka and Ki Reese during our recent visit to Hawaii and I can't put it down. Great Stuff!
Historian and steel guitarist John W. Troutman offers the instrument’s definitive history, from its discovery by a young Hawaiian royalist named Joseph Kekuku to its revolutionary influence on American and world music.

I just got a copy of "The Hawaiian Steel Guitar and its Great Hawaiian Musicians" by Lorene Ruymar a couple of weeks ago. How does "Kika Kila" compare?

Both books are good and are of interest to steel players.

Kika Kila is less of a compilation of articles and is more of a linear story of the development and early influence of the steel guitar.

Mr. Troutman, I wish I'd known about you during my visit at the 2023 Smithsonian Folk Festival, I would've definitely looked you up sir. Meeting you would've been a pleasure.

This is a great book! So glad that Mr Troutman put in the effort to research the instruments and players that descended from those early pioneers.

Resonator Guitars are having a new life in the Bluegrass world. ResoGat started in the year 2000 and currently has around 100 attendees each year.
The Steel Guitar world is still expanding.
Again thanks for the book.
