Recommendation for a rolling stool?

Post by Joseph Lazo »

I've been using a cajon with a cushion on top, but want something with wheels so it can be easily moved around (on a carpeted floor). There are plenty of stools with wheels, but I'm looking for one that is height adjustable and that will work on carpeted floors as well as hard floors. Does anyone have such a stool they could recommend?

For what it's worth, Amazon has quite a few options.

Yeah, I know Amazon has a lot of stools. I've looked. There's just too many to sort through. That's why I was asking for recommendations from folks who use stools for playing lap steel, hoping maybe someone had found something that works well and isn't a disposable POS.

I, too, looked and looked for an adjustable height stool that was solid and would roll on a carpeted surface. My conclusion: if you are talking about a carpet with a pad underneath, one probably does not exist. With carpet over a hard surface, you might find something. I have the former, and I use a drum throne sitting on 3 - 3 1/2" plastic sliders - the kind you put under sofa legs. I don't need to move long distances, so that works for me, but even then, I have to make sure there is some downward pressure on the sliders because they are not actually attached to the feet of the stool.

I wish you good luck, and if you find something, I hope you'll share it with us!

I found this on Etsy. But, yegads, $825!

Maybe put wheels on a drum seat

Saw this in the Used dept at local GC for $35 and got it. Looks like it was never used. It doesn't roll, and it doesn't have a quick adjust for seat height, but is stable and has a good seat cushion. Best (affordably priced) stool I could find. I think similar stools go for $45 and up online.

The seat looks really long in this photo, but it's only 24".

Joseph,
I use the same stool for pedal steel, and I use 3 1/2" furniture sliders to make it possible to slide around on carpet - not the same as rolling on wheels, but it works fine for me. You can get a set for 7 bucks or so at Lowe's, Home Depot, or Amazon, of course. I use the same for a drum throne when playing lap steel. Best, David
