Will It Go ‘Round In Circles cover

Post by Mike Neer »

Putting together some music for live sets, getting back to my roots.
This is an old Billy Preston classic, which I used to play many years ago when I fronted a Rhythm & Blues band with horns. I am the horn section now. 😂

Nice version. Great that you are so inventive with the lap steel.
Keep on steelin',

Lap steel is a versatile instrument...in the right hands! I really dig what you do with it, Mike. 8)

Outstanding Mike! And just as strong on the singing!!

At 1:53 minutes in- did you use a traditional WAH pedal there?

Mike that was great. I gotta say it's something doing it on steel and singing too. Always liked the tune because of the groove. You captured that and more.

Soulful voice! Nice.

Great example of economy picking in the guitar break.
If I'd stop buying old guitars to fix, I might actually learn to play.
I haven't met a guitar I didn't like.

Nice one, Mike! A great song is a terrific place to start, and I love where you took it. Great horn voicing for the stabs. Envelope filter in the break, right?

Wow, thanks for all the nice comments everyone.
This is what I was doing before I started playing lap steel, leading an 8-pc band. It’s taken a while but I am circling back. More of this to come.

I used an envelope filter for the solo.

Anyone interested in this type of playing might find my new book on economy picking useful.
