The sisters are uniformly amazing together - there's nothing like sibling musical harmony - and Megan is exceptionally good. There's such a feeling of joy when she plays that's really rare. I also appreciate their reverence for older music.

I wonder how many girls are inspired by Megan to take up lap steel. Can only hope there are at least a few, but the audience in that video looked to be about 98% middle aged guys.

I always feel a bit of hometown pride when I see Megan playing her Beard. It was made about a mile and a half from where I grew up and my sister went to school with Paul.

I just put an iTunes playlist for Larkin Poe today and saw this!

Megan now has a light(er) 6 string lap steel 22.5" scale that was custom made for her. She used to use her Rickenbacker lap steel 22.5" scale with a custom adapter but it weighed close to 10 lbs. Her lap steel is tuned to OPEN G Dobro (L2H)GBDGBD.

Joseph, that is the good news.

The bad news is that it sells for $3,200.

The real bad news is that it is sold out. Not sure if/when Beard will make more.

Tony, yep, it's pricey. Not something I'd buy, as I have no interest in jumping around with a lap steel. I'm more interested in the Road-o-Phonic as it was originally built, with a hollow neck. From what I've been able to find out, they no longer make them this way.

Joseph
You are right, they made solid ones, I had one, weighed a ton...now made of poplar, I believe, and lighter...
I used it as a design springboard and had Ben Bonham make me a parlor size arch top thin line hollow body one with a Lollar string-through pickup along with the Fishman, and the road-o-phonic electronics and spider/cone...it is a true lap steel and a true dobro all in one...I couldn't be happier...stereo output, Fishman through an Aura, Lollar straight into the pedalboard...redwood top, maple body, ebony fretboard.
I had Ben also make a parlor acoustic one - deeper, with a Weissenborn neck. these twins totally cover the whole landscape of tone...Ben is a magician with wood..

Steve, I've seen one of those on this forum before (quite possible yours!). They're stunning!

And I think I may have misspoke. The original Road-o-Phonic had a hollow body, whereas the later ones were solid body. I don't think the neck on the original was hollow, though, as I previously stated.
