Remembering Stu Basore

I can't believe it's been 5 years since Stu passed away! He was truly one of the nicest players I ever met, and the one that got me started playing pedal steel. He helped me a lot in my early early years' playing. I saw him regularly whenever he was in the area playing with Kitty Wells and later, with Ray Price. His unique sound is the first thing you hear in the movie "Full Metal Jacket", and that little bit of fate means that his playing will live and be heard for another 100 years.

Stu was one of my favorite players. He's all over many albums I have especially during the 1970s and 80s. Really great player too. Never really got the media credit he deserved. He just showed up did is gig and recordings and went home!
He is on some of Big Jim Vest's Legends of Steel Guitar on YouTube, good shows and well worth watching if you're a steel guitar fanatic.

Truly loved watching Stu play as much as hearing him. Had that pipe and a big smile. Seems he enjoyed his work as much as we did. Always a joy and professionalism throughout. Miss seeing Stu.

Stu had relatives here in the northern Ky area. He visited and played here for years before I knew about it. I had seen and heard him play at shows and around Nashville for years before I became aware of his local appearances.

Stu played some fine bass on the C neck on which he had a little different tuning. Some of my favorites were to see him and Boogie do Jammin' with Jimmy and Stu's rendition of String of Pearls. Such a talent and great guy. Always remembered.

Stu was one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. He had a great personality and sense of humor. I always enjoyed visiting with him at the various steel shows.
