Steel guitar appraisals

Post by Eric OHara »

Hello, I have a friend that has a few pedal steels she wants to
Sell. I’ve only seen pictures of the guitars and from what I understand
They are in good working order. Older model Buds. I am told they were
built by Mr. Bobbe Seymour.

Who does that type of valuation on older model guitars?

Many thanks. Eric

Well they could of been "worked on" and/or "sold by" Bobby Seymour from his shop; but NOT built by Seymour.
I've been Restoring most every year and model of Sho~Bud for over 25 years. But Appraisal is a whole other work of art..ha... as "what they are worth" goes to battle with "how much the price is asked" and "how much they sell for"(which we never get to know unless WE sell it) and how much is it worth to a particular Buyer.
So it's really just Ball-park appraisals I can give; because someone like me knows what all the hundreds of parts that make a pedal steel 40 years ago; and how much all those parts costs these days to make.....and we can't possibly ASK that later price tag; like many are; cause a 40 to 50 year old guitar is NOT worth that much and they are NOT historic or Antique; as you can still find and buy hundreds of them.
Ok, does that answer your question?? ha..if so; I'll take a look at pics top and underneath any Sho~bud, you want a "ball park appraisal".
p.s. I'll also add why the particular shobud will be harder to sell or easier to sell; by how it's all together with what parts or not.

Hi Ricky, after seeing posts on ShoBuds over the past I kinda
Thought you’d be the person with the info. Your response
Makes total sense. I’ll send her your response and go from there.
Thanks for the reply and the info. Very helpful! EO
