A new pedal steel

Post by Bill Duncan »

It is a running joke between my wife and I about me buying a new steel guitar. I am always threatening to order a new MSA D10 Legend, but she knows I won't. I have yet to find one I like better than the one I have.

I talked for years about buying a new D28 Martin, but I never did. So she actually went out, all by herself and bought me a new D28 for Christmas in 2007. A real surprise. She is a good wife.

There are no pedal steel shops near us so, she probably will not surprise me with a new pedal steel. No problem, I love the one I have.

I have assisted several of my friends in finding and getting surprise instruments for their spouses. It's always come out well, and I do think that it's about as good a surprise as someone could ever give. (especially given the time competition of music over spouse....).

My wife--totally supportive of my bad habits--knows me well enough to know that I'm such a picky SOB that buying me an instrument would be, at best, a huge risk. But she doesn't complain when I bring something new into the (small) house. Can't ask for more than that.,

There's no instrument as great as having a great partner in life (for 40 plus years in my case)!
