Carter-Starter Problem With "E" (RKR) Lever

Post by Donny Dennis »

Am having a problem with the "E" (RKR) knee lever on my Carter-Starter. It is supposed to lower the 2nd string to a "D" when I press it but it doesn't seem to be working. Can anyone please tell me from looking at the photo below if something is missing in the mechanism for the "E" lever?

My Carter-Starter is well past the warranty period.

Again, all help is appreciated.

Regards,

Donny

Apparently the first attempt to upload the photo didn't work. Here is the second attempt.

Please disregard my post above. After watching the video that came with my Carter-Starter I learned that I had loosened the tuning nut too much which caused the "E" lever not to work. After tightening the tuning nut the "E" lever is working again.

Gee Donny, I was all prepped with an answer.
(In short, there was too much space between the lever actuator and the 'bell crank' that it moves. You did it the simplest way. Congrats.
Doing it yourself brings great rewards.)

Tucker & Charlie,

Thanks for the kind words but I couldn't have figured it out without watching the video two or three times. I am not mechanically minded so I am just glad that I didn't really damage something. This was a learning experience, and it helped me to better understand how a PSG works.

It's steelers' like you that make this forum such a great place to visit, and learn from.

Regards,

Donny

Donny, you just got a little bit more "mechanically minded", which is what will happen each time you work on one of these machines.

Lee, thanks for the encouragement. Now, if I can just learn to play the PSG.

John, I am a beginner, and didn't know what I was doing. This was my first attempt at tuning the pedals and knee levers.
