Russ Pahl - Show Pro "Custom"

Post by Jeff Surratt »

A few days after playing Lloyd's new Show Pro, Russ called about me building one for him. However, he had one request. He wanted a 25 inch scale for the back neck, 3 staggered pickups like on a Stratocaster and a swamp-ash back board just like a Stringmaster.

Well we've figured out how to do it. We took a Pro III neck scribed and extended it, cut the tailplate and used a short keyhead for the extra length. The pickups will start about the 24 fret.

The rest of the cabinet will look like the fingertip Lloyd played in the 60's, with the sunburst finish. AJ has already duplicated this color on the pedal guit-steel we are building for Jr. Brown. We'll keep you posted on how they turn out.

Just can't seem to say No on these weird jobs. Thought it was over when we did a pedal-banjo for Earl Sneed a few years ago. Rest his soul.

i tried using a strat copy for lap but that middle pickup was way in the way. you'd have to lower it down so much it wouldn't add much unless it was a lot hotter than the other two.

I remember back in the 980's, I sold Russ an old ZB D-10, wonder what ever happened to that ZB?? Maybe Russ could clear that up!! No, I don't want er back, just curious. The ZB's all had great sound, thats for sure, made a lot of business for the choirpractors though!!
