Weissenborn waltz in open D

Post by Jean-Paul Bataille »

I committed again some waltz, so much french that I'm a bit shy to show it here, but...

It came very fast yesterday, and today I made a video :

Nothing to be shy about. That is good music.

I thank you for taking the time to listen.
Actually I'm not shy a bit, but this is not a kind of music a lot of forumites can easily relate to, so I'm just careful.

What's the round thing by the nut on the second string?

Nice tune!

I very much enjoyed your song and playing. Thank you for posting it.

I'm curious about your weissenborn, what model is it?

Thanks guys for the kind comment.

Paul, the "round thing by the nut" is indeed a Pitch-Key, as Lance indicated.
I mainly play in D tunings, so I use it on the 3rd string, along with a Keith-peg, to go from F to F# to G and back (minor, major and modal tunings). There are some tunes where I change inside the piece. Handy.

Aaron, the weiss is a deep body (probably made by Aiersi in China), and distributed in Canada by Twisted Wood. Since I live in Canada, this was the straightest route for me to own a weissenborn. Mahogany solid top, laminate back and sides. This is my first (and only one) weiss to date, so I have no comparison points. I changed the nut which was too low, enlarged the strings width, replace the three high strings tuners with banjo planetary ones (two regular and one Keith-peg), and added not only one, but two magnetic pick-ups. I use a strap under my thighs to keep the weiss in place, and I also modify my bars to obtain the exact rounded nose I want. That's about it.
