New Glass Bar -Thanks Gary Boyett

Couple weeks ago I got to my gig without my box that holds the Bar collection and picks, I had extra picks but no bar.So, I played the night with a "Cordials Glass" about 1 1/2" in dia. and 4" long. Awkward at best but we were all struck with how really good it sounded. I have used a Boyett bar with my Fender eight exclusively since they first came out but never liked it for the pedal guitar although it is "standard" size ( 7/8" but not quite as long) It just doesn't have enoug "heft" to get the tone in my opinion. Having read about John Hughey's new larger bar I decided to contact Gary and see if a larger version of the Glass bar could be made. I wanted a 1" at least as long as the BJS I normally use. He responded right away saying that they were prepared to make a 15/16" one and that this would be the first. Necessary arrangements being made and a custom color picked I waited only a few days for reciept. When I got it I was surprised by one that measures a perfect 1". I have now played it for a weekend and a recording session with the band and the TONE is the best that I have had. It makes NO noise on the strings and weighs about the same as the BJS. I think that for those able to weild the larger bar that these will find a lot of acceptance, they are beautiful, relatively inexpensive and just sound fabulous, I want to thank Gary and Jeff and to encourage anyone with an interest to try one, I really am impressed with the sound of this bar.

Thank You Byron. I am very pleased that you like the new bars. The new design is really taking off. That is real crushed glass inside! The colors are bright and glimmer in the light. Jeff made me a blue and white one the other day with the new design and it is just incredible.

Gary and Jeff have put in a lot of hard work, research and experimentation to create these unique glass bars. A lot of the top players are using them these days, some of their comments can be seen here.

I think that a lot of non-pedal players are aware of these but the new large size could be the next big thing in Pedal Steel sound, I really believe this. We have so much discussion here about tone and how to get it,(it's in the hands)no doubt in my mind this is an improvement in my overall sound, tone and sustain both.
