correct string gauge/make?

Post by Dennis Lee »

I finally broke a string on my Carter D10! Since I'm fairly new to all of this, it was the third string (G#). What make of string and gauge would anyone recommend? Thanks in advance for any help offered.

It's a good idea to always keep around a few extra 3rd strings (G#), as this is the one that breaks the most often. The typical gauge for this string is 0.11, however many players prefer the 0.115 from Jagwire. It will give you a thicker sound and may last a bit longer. You can buy individual Jagwire strings from bOb here on the forum.

what Gary says Dennis
i prefer them 11.5 to the 11
they last longer & sound less tinny
do keep some Xtra ones on hand
Brother Erv Niehaus uses 12s !
imo Jagwires are the best & our good Cap't sells 'em
(i use them Russ Hicks sets)
