Fessenden Decal ????

Post by Larry Strawn »

The Decal on my Fessy says Fessenden Guitar Co.

Others I've seen say Fessenden over the top of the Longhorn.

Can someone tell me about these two different decals? Year of guitar manufacture, model, etc.????

Just wondering.

Larry ~ why not e-mail Jerry Fessenden and ask him when the changeover between the decals took place.
When I bought my Fessy I wondered when it was built, so I e-mailed Jerry with the guitar's Serial # and got a fairly quick response from him.

No offense, but I like the longhorn better. That's what mine has, and if it had came with the other one, I would have swapped it. I think they are probably the best looking decal out there. I just got 2 decals to put on my rack-box.

Just my $.02 worth...

I'm sure other guys have made the suggestion to Jerry, but I'd been after him for years to come up with a recognizable logo decal for his guitars. People were having a hard time reading the brand name of my guitar.

Mark Giles came up with the longhorn logo first, with a pearl inlay. But it was shaped like a University of Texas longhorn and not the Fessenden longhorn like the fret markers. I suggested he change the shape to more like the fretboard. He did so and Mark inlaid the correctly shaped longhorn in the front apron of my current Fessy. I think it was one of the first to have that logo. Mark also changed the style of script, making the "F" more like a Fender-type "F." Photo is on Jerry's website.

Jerry had the logo in this form made into decals, so the guitars are consistent, and it's a much more recognizeable brand trademark.

I also think the newer longhorn logo is much more attractive. I always felt like the old Fessy logo had NO STYLE and was way too generic. Nick

Herb,
Do you remember what year this decal change took place?

I ordered the guitar right after I played the ISGC show in 2002, so Mark inlaid the logo for me in 2003, and so the decals must have come a year or two later, like 2004-5.

Of course, I could call Jerry and ask, but that would be too easy and accurate! Image

My first three Fessies all had the FGC decal. I saw John Macy's guitar that had "Fessenden" inlaid in pearl so I had Mark Giles do my rosewood/maple guitar (#3, now owned by Wayne Franco) like that as well. My current Fessy, cocobolo/maple, came with the current logo attached.

Thanks Herb,

That's what I was after, quess I didn't ask the first question right.

Jerry told me in a e-mail right after I got the guitar that he thought it was made in early 2000's. I didn't think about the decal at that time.

You're right, quess it would be to easy [and accurate] to e-mail him and ask the man himself!! lol..

Thanks again Herb

I have an S-10 Jerry built for me almost exactly two years ago that has the old logo. I liked it that way because it matches my D-10. But I agree the new logo is real classy.
