Great Push-Pull Mechanic in So. Calif?
I've got the Emmons home.....it's all here as far as I can tell, and it's a lovely beast. It is definitely a different animal than my LDG. It’s like going from a Les Paul with light low action to a Telecaster with high action and heavy strings. The tone is really different from the LDG, too: the LDG is much brighter, but the Emmons has a fat low-mid thunk and twang that is really warm and really present, too. The out-put of the Emmons’s pickups are noticeably lower than the LDG’s, so perhaps a rewind is in order. I would like to take this guitar to a very good tech who really knows push-pulls, a great push-pull mechanic. The guitar definitely needs a good going over, and I would like to lighten the feel of the pedals. Some of the pedals are way stiffer than others. I don’t think anyone has serviced the guitar in long time. I live in southern California. Is there a great “push-pull mechanic” down here (I know there are some great pedal steel techs here, but I’m looking for someone who really knows push-pulls), or should I get ready to ship it to Tennessee?
Thanks very much (again!) for the help!

I shipped mine to Tommy Cass and he did a great job. I suspect Bobby Bowman does fine work. I know him to be a very nice guy. If you're going to have it rebuilt then I definitly recommend shipping it to one of those guys. If you just want to have it looked at to see what it needs, I've heard that Jim Palenscar in San Diego knows them pretty well.

how interesting,my experience with p/p and LDG is complitly other way around,he heThe tone is really different from the LDG, too: the LDG is much brighter, but the Emmons has a fat low-mid thunk and twang that is really warm and really present, too.
my push pulls always have bright and crystal clear tone when LDG has deep and strong clean wooden tone
however, you have the best of the two worlds, LDG kicks butt and so does p/p
congratulation on great instruments

Thanks, guys.
Db: it's very cool having both of these guitars side by side. I think they really compliment each other. I got rid of my Tele a while ago and have been jonesing for another Tele, but this Emmons is fixing that. It has highs in the tone, but it’s also got a ballsy mid-range thunk and punch that the LDG doesn’t have. I’ve never had a steel guitar with a C6 neck before, and I am totally digging the big fat strings. I really can’t play the C6 neck at all, but I’ve been zoning out on Luther’s “Folsom Prison” lick and “Peter Gunn” on those big fat C, F, A strings.
