I finally installed a Lawrence 712 in my 83 S-B s-12. It came to me with a George L's 5-way pu installed, and I put off changing it because I enjoyed the coil splitting options, but it always seemed lacking in edge and character.
Well the 712 sounds GREAT!! The only downside is that since I actually WANT to focus on the sound of the guitar now, I am noticing cabinet drop which I didn't before.
