I picked up my guitar from Albert Johnson this week over in Tallahassee. He did an awesome job changing the setup and making the adjustments that this axe needed. Meanwhile last week a care package from Jim Clark arrived containing the factory logo stickers for the front apron and the pedal bar and a pair of new Clark Custom white fretboards. The fretboards are not installed yet but I laid them on to take some pictures.
Thanks to Jim Clark and Albert Johnson, this old beast is getting a second chance at the good life. I've said it once and I'll say it again, Steel Players are the nicest folks on the Planet!
Boy this brings back memories. I played Clark Customs for about 20 years. They are great sounding guitars and play easy, but are a real bear to change setups on, and they are heavy. I actually had two Clarks, the first one had the old pull/release mechanism, but had a beautiful see-through red finish on a birdseye cabinet, and I think it had a natural top. My second one was a brown finish much like yours, with a natural top, and had the all pull mechanism. Jim Clark was always a great guy to work with too. Some of Jim's cabinets were made by Leonard Klontz, the father of Troy Klontz, who played steel for Brooks & Dunn for a long time.
I saw the before pictures, and boy did he do a great job, nice looking steel Jimbo, I see you took the pictures inside a fenced in area, are you in prison Jimbo?
