Low budget Case Lining...RAT FUR

Post by Dave Zielinski »

I built a case for my D-8 fender custom, as the original fell apart. It actually was "hog-tied" together with a rope wrapped around it like a ribbon for a Chritmas present. and it was duct taped like crazy...Pennsyltucky roadcase style.

So, I built a nice, fitting case for it and had the wife sew up a bag for the legs. I dont like cases that house the legs. I think they rattle around too much, and some gigs I play it on my lap anyway. Im already packing a PA and amps, micstands, etc... whats a leg case to carry? the case interior pretty much follows the body 1/2" all the way around. A couple of good latches and a handle, full legnth piano hinge completed it.

I was at the auto parts store today and saw truck carpet lining- this is the same "rat fur" they use to cover monitors, and PA equipment. It won't react with a lacquer finish, and is meant to be glued with 3M 77 spray adhesive. 3' by 6' was 9 bucks.

looks pretty good, was low budget and does its job nicely. I may opt for a duct tape exterior next.

either way, it does its job, and im happy with it.
