Advice on cleaning changer

Post by Damien Odell »

Hi, I have a BMI S10 that works and plays well. However, the changer looks to be full of black grime, it looks like it hasn't been properly taken apart and cleaned in years. Last sat night I played at a B and S Ball and I cannot begin to describe how much dust got kicked up out there and I know the steel mechanism would have copped a lot of it.
I'm taking out all the pull rods and labelling them so I can get it back how it was when I'm done cleaning the changer.
Can anyone recommend what I should use to clean the mechanism once i have it apart?
Thanks,

Damien

If you are disassembling the changer, Automotive parts dip will clean it like brand new. Be sure to use rubber gloves as parts dip is a shade rough on the hands. Be sure to relubricate as you reassemble. Also turn the changer shaft about 50% around so you have a new surface for the fingers to ride on. Hope this helps
