advice on a acoustic/electric

I'm looking to get a nice acoustic/electric guitar for my music room.I'd like to get a good quality one,but just can't afford a Martin,Taylor,Cort,...Can anyone out there suggest something I can get,so when a six stringer comes over there will be something decent he/she can play.-Thanks,Jim

Yamah makes some pretty good quality entry level acoustic electrics, as does washburn.
you might find more answers on a forum that's not specifically for steel guitar

I can sell you a nice Blueridge. They have one now with the electronics built in. Personally, I would get an acoustic and at a Martin Thinline pickup.

I've got a Taylor 814C that I really like, but the fact is that it's got nothing on my old Alvarez Yairi DY-74C. In fact, since my guitar tech went over it (rather extensively, I'm afraid

it plays better than the Taylor. Tonally, the dreadnaught is darker, but that's the nature of the beast.

For electronics I like the Fishman blender system, but it may be more complicated and expensive than you'd want. Heard good things about B-Band, but never tried one.

I saw a guy at a bluegrass jam that was playing a Seagull brand guitar. He was on stage with a guy that had a Martin and another that had a Taylor. To my ears, this Seagull blew away the Martin and Taylor. You might want to check into them. They are under a grand also.

Although I'm not a huge fan of them acoustically, Takamine makes a very reliable acoustic/electric. There are good choices under a grand in this brand of guitar. I used one live for over 1,000 gigs and it never failed me once. Like I said, some of them are lacking in acoustic performance, but they sound good plugged-in and have a nice presence that cuts through the mix.

I had a Samick, Greg Bennett design, that was a really nice acoustic. It had a solid spruce top, a Fishman pickup with a preamp, had a very good sound and action. I bought it used on Ebay for around $200.00. I sold it to a friend of mine who is still playing it, and loves it.

I bought a Martin DC 16GTE acoustic/electric in mahogany about fours years ago. it has opened up and is a really nice and full sounding dread.
the Fishamn blender sound system works like a charm.
at 1200$ more or less it isa sweet guitar.
very dependable.
it has a gloss soundboard and satin back and sides finish.
Im a flatpicker. and this guitar is perfect for that.

I have a couple of Blueridge guitars and I don't think you can beat the bang-for-the-buck with these guitars. They sound great and are beautiful.

I 2nd the Takamine acoustic/electric guitars. you can get a very nice sounding
guitar for around $800. There's one Martin, I beleive it's the DX1 model(not positive)
but it's strictly acoustic you'd have to install a pickup on it. But this particular model is only $500, and it's got a tone almost as good as the higher priced Martins.
My personal favorite for tone is still the Big body Gibsons. But I can't afford the price tag.
