What Mic Do You Use?

Post by Jay Kardong »

Hi friends,

I play a 1999 Carter through a Fender Steel King, and every club I play, they put a 57 on it, and I seem to loose the really nice lows when I listen back to recordings.

What microphone do you use when playing a show that requires one?

Thanks
Jay

Invariably a '57. You should check with the soundman and get a reading of what he's got on the rail for EQ. Maybe he's got the lows scooped out.

I also use an SM57.
Possibly your recording is cutting the lows, and the live sound is OK.

Maybe the PA?
Maybe what Chris said.

Be sure the mike isn't placed at the center of the speaker.

I have a 57 and a 58, either one can do a great job. What Chris said. EQ.
