9'th String

Post by Tyler Hall »

Does anybody pull the 9'th D to an E? I know a lot of people drop it, but I haven't seen anybody raise it. Boy, there's some pretty licks on there. I put it on my Fessy last night and I love it. You can play licks so pretty, they'd bring tears to a glass eye! Not bad for doing cromatic runs from top to bottom. Surely, somebody else does this.

On what pedal/lever are you raising it?

I experimented with pulling the 9th string behind the bar with my ring finger after seeing Bobbee's recent Magnum video. Its a neat sound. Clearly a lick finger.

I'm just playing with it right now. I currently have it on my RKR, but it lowers 5 a half, so thats no good. But it does have some cool licks.

Sacred Steelers have the reverse of what you have. They have two E strings, and a pedal or lever can lower one to D, and the other one can usually be raised to F#.

The late Winnie Winston raised his 9th string to D# (Eb) which was a useful change to have on many situations as along with your E to F knee lever....JH in Va.
