How do you charge 4 shipping?

Post by Frank Parish »

I've never charged anybody for the box and all the wrappings like bubble wrap, styrofoam, peanuts, tape and whatever I need for the package to be shipped. I only charge the price for UPS and that's all. How about the rest of you that buys and sells here?

I shipped 2 steel last year. I packaged the stuff myself. I would guess it take 20 bucks just to package...

Steel guitar is my hobby. I only charge for shipping cost plus insurance when I sell a steel.

In my business, cartons, packing, and anything used in shipping is added to the shipping fee along with insurance.

My products are not marked up to cover these costs, plus I lay out money to stock shipping products, and money must be worth something, right?

After all, it costs to borrow it.
[This message was edited by HowardR on 20 January 2006 at 07:45 PM.]

I am a custom fishing rod builder. I ship custom rods all over the world. I know pretty much what it is going to cost to send a rod somewhere, and so I charge that amount. If I am to high on my estimate, I refund the money....James

I pack for free. However I used to have an endless supply of free bubble wrap. With the price of packing materials and the time it takes to pack a large item like it should be. Well, I'm trying to give up the buy and sell habit.Too much risk for the amount of monay you might make. I'll still buy an item I want to try.If it doesn't work out for me.I'll sell it..

I've shipped a Steel to France and one to the UK and an Amp. to New Zealand and quite a few U.S.A. shipments. I never considered what it cost to pack anything! I just get a price from the shipper and inform the buyer before closing the deal! I'm not what anyone would actually call a ‘good businessman’, but; I consider myself honest and fair! Actually, sometimes I come out on the short~end¡ Image (Like a $35 item including shipping that cost over $32 to ship!)

Usually, I don't include the packing materials in my "shipping costs". I'll weigh it after packing and go to Fed EX ground and get an estimate (usually within a dollar one way or the other) and that's what I'll charge, on items that I sell "plus shipping". Usually what I charge for shipping is below the actual cost.
