tunings

Newcomer to PSG.Question:
What tuning would be suitable to play in most keys? Reading the melody line and chords is no problem---as 'seasoned'musician on other instruments.
Are tunings such as the E9/E13/E7--'A' tunings and C6 mostly limited to those keys?.How would pedals/levers effect other keys?Musical interests: Hawaiian/Jazz/Good swing/ballads 'standard' tunes.What would be a good all- round tuning? Has anybody been there?

Mike you can play in ANY KEY in any tuning.
SIMPLE? Forget the pedals and levers. They merely inhance the tuning they're set-up for.

C6th will likely give you more versatility.

As Ray has already hinted, the player has more shortcomings than the tuning he uses, when it comes to playing melody lines. When people say such-and-such tuning is best for certain music styles, what they are really saying is "it's easier for me".

On a pedal steel, all of the keys are the same. If you master a line in one key, you can play it in another by just moving the bar position up or down to the correct fret. It's not like a piano where the key of C# is radically different from the key of C.
