LeGrande: How should I......?

Post by Roger Rettig »

....hook up the following change?

I want to lower my 10th a whole step on my RKR (the same 'knee that lowers my 2nd and 9th) and have it cancel out the 'A' pedal 'raise'.

Can I do this on my LGlll, and can someone suggest which holes (on the bell-crank and at the changer) I should use, please?

Thanks,

RR

Yes you can. Not knowing how long your Knee lever travel is.I'm guessing it's about standard.I would try it in the 4th bellcrank hole.Counting from the cross bar up.And the top lowering hole in the changer.Remember the lower you can hook in the bellcrank. The softer the knee lever will be.If you use stainless strings, and string guage will also effect how low you can hook. You can maybe hook even lower.Which would be great. Because this will be a little stiff on an LIII if you have a change on the C6th. I'm assuming you do.You'll need to tune the "A note" at the split tuner for string 10. Regards......bb

Edit: Remember if you were using the split tuner stop for a Bb note.Or if it's never been adjusted? Back er off a few rounds before you start. <font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Bobby Boggs on 29 December 2005 at 05:46 PM.]</p></FONT>

Thanks for the reply, Bobby - I've sent you an e-mail.

For the people who have e-mailed me asking why I'd want to do such a thing, it is so that I can get a '4' chord over a '5th' note in the bass. I find myself longing for a way to do this in more modern music, and this seems the best way to achieve it.

I've always got this by playing strings 2-4-6-10, with B pedal(G# to A) and 2nd string knee lever, down 2 semitones(Ebto C#). Same thing , just a different way

Yes, but I prefer to get the change without radically altering the string-grip - makes it more readily-accessible. I've backed off that 2nd string lower so it just lowers a half-step, anyway (I never liked half-pedalling that one 'on the fly' with pedals down).

Thanks, Bobby, for your recent suggestion on reassigning pull-rods - I'll be under that guitar this afternoon after golf......

Okay, Bobby - I won't actually get a chance to work on it 'til Monday now; I have two shows today AND a New Year's Eve gig at 11.30 pm!

Tomorrow? More golf, and it's going to be eighty degrees out there! And I have a new driver with an Aldila NV 'S' shaft to try out Image

That's it. Rub it in. Oh by the way.I forgot to mention. You need to remove every rod on the guitar to really do this job right. Image Image
