Fender 400 question
Hi folks,
I have assumed that the Fender 400 single neck 8-string guitar was a four pedal guitar, but lately I've seen single neck 8-string 400s with six and eight pedals. Did Fender make the 400 single neck guitars with options on how many pedals they came with, and if so, how many pedals did they offer? Or are people adding extra pedals themselves?
I ask because I have a Fender 400 with four pedals, I think it's an early 60's model, it's sunburst with the rolling bridge and nut. I'm curious about having more pedals. What is the best way to do this? Is it best to find a factory 400 with more pedal (that is, if they actually made these), or is it good to add them myself? How available are the parts, and how big a deal would this be to do?
Any info on this is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Cliff

You could order a 400 with up to 10 pedals. They cost $50 each extra. I have a 400 with 8 pedals. I love the sound. You can search for extra parts in the want to buy section of the forum.

What Russ said...
If you have a 4-pedal unit the pedals are probably mounted somewhere in the middle. Additional pedals require pedals, mounting hardware, rods, levers, frame and pedal rack drilling, cables and a new pully.
Honestly - if you want more pedals it's usually more cost effective to keep looking for a "loaded" one and then sell yours.

Okay, thanks a lot for the info, guys. That clears up the mystery for me. I think the route Jim suggests makes sense. No sense hacking up a perfectly good guitar if there are others floating around with more pedals. It's a sweet sounding guitar. $50 per pedal sounds like a deal. That's like half-a-tank of gas. Those were the days, I guess.
Thanks
