ZB 2nd string flatting to a C#

Post by Danny Kuykendall »

My ZB-Rus-ler has a problem with the string that flats the D# to a D, and then a C# (has the stop in it). The knee lever will not go far enough to flat it all the way to the C#. I know this guitar has an adjustment to increase the range of the lever, but I'm not sure how to get there. Any suggestions? Thanks for any input.

Danny! I got flamed a few years back when I stated, that you must have your 1/2 & whole drop or raise on 2nd string on 2 separate levers, I never answered the guy that actually said this, "I just hooked up my tuner & lowered my Eb to D & it was right on, then lowered my D to C# & it was right on" he of course was referring to his 1/2&whole drop on same lever, I was going to answer him with, OK so what? but try to play those Hal & Weldon 2nd string licks with one lever, Hal, Weldon, & myself discovered about 40 yrs ago, it couldn't be done! If at all possible I hope you can incorporate this method on your guitar! Good Luck! Al, thanks for the advice. Interesting idea. I'll definitely have to think about it. Meanwhile I'm trying to sell the guitar and want to have it its original working condition. Thnx again.

Danny, is it a ZB or a Rustler?

for what it's worth I also have the .5 step lower and the whole step lower on seperate levers on my ZB AND my Zum. I rely on the accuracy of the .5 step lower too much to chance missing the feel stop in the heat of the moment...

Danny - also for what it's worth, I have the 1/2 stops fitted to both my Z.Bs. with no trouble tuning both lowers. As far as I know the SD10 is fitted with what I assumed to be the original piece of 2" aluminum channel that the fist part of the lowering system utilizes before coming to the end stop which is adjusted from the end plate. It worked so good that I coppied it to fit one on my D10 and that just works perfect and is "tunable" in both lowering positions.
