My New carter Arrived

Post by Brian Henry »

A couple of weeks ago my new carter arrived. What an instrument! Great looks, great sound, and mechanics so smooth and as quiet as a mouse. It came with ernie ball strings which sounded a bit shrill. I replaced them with my favorites: Buddy Emmons S I T nickel strings.

Also, I could not get used to the Carter fretboard, so I replaced it with one of Bobbe's white shobud fretboards. The guitar is blue birdseye and is such a beauty. From time of payment until delivery was less than three weeks. Ann was a pleasure to deal with and oh! so professional and efficient. Thanks again team Carter!!

I have a 2001 Carter with birdseye blue aprons and a black top. It was the perfect balance between beauty and tone until I got a pure white kitten. Who is now a big hairbomb cat who likes to help me play too. The cat and the steel are each real pretty, just not together.

I really like my Carter. It can't be beat for a hard-working steel guitar, IMHO. Stays in tune really nice, and sounds very good as well.

You can't go wrong with a CARTER. I have a D-10 & a S-10D. No problems. Lightweight, stays in tune, sounds great, looks good and is priced right. Plus the folks at CARTER are good to deal with. They provide the product and stand behind it. I don't know what else a player could want.

Carter guitars are very good. Show me another brand that plays better. You send them payment, they ship you a guitar.(usually in 2-3 weeks) Just the way business is supposed to be.

I`ve had my D10 about 6 weeks and could not agree more. Mine has had a real workout already and I like it better each time I sit down behind it. Great guitar Image

I'm on my third Carter since 1996 and I have nothing but good to say about the guitar and the company.

I've gotten so many compliments and comments that some thought I was playing an Emmons before they walked up and saw it was a Carter.I'm just lucky I live close enough that I can drop in and see whats new when I want.

I've had my new D10 about a month and it's a beauty -- it got a real hammering over the weekend and performed flawlessly! Most impressed.

I picked up my used Carter D10 on Sunday. What a guitar! It is the best sounding, best playing guitar I have owned (and the guitar I sold to buy this one was a sho-bud pro II). I can't believe how good it sounds. It just sounds very big and full. I'm already planning on replacing my MSA with another Carter.
[This message was edited by Bill Myers on 07 June 2005 at 06:14 AM.]

I too picked up my used Carter this past weekend...S10 4 x 5 ( PF pedal added), I haven`t played since `98 so I am back to square one in the learning curve but it is now fun..I like the light weight and the fact that I don`t have to keep re-tuning it every hour or so ( unlike my old Emmons SD10)...mine is jet black mica with a nice double trim that changes colours when you move around it.....now all I need is a decent amp and vol.ped. and I`ll be set like a good jello hahahaha Image

Here Here! Can't say the're the only thing around, but I sure LOVE mine (clear maple with abolone inlay and what a tone, I get sooooo many comments from other musicians!). And a great bunch of guys (and gal) to do business with too.

My cousin was over and played mine last night. He said that it was the best playing best sounding guitar that I've owned. That's saying something since I've had an MCI, a Fessy and a Shobud! I agree with him completely. I think it is a very precise, very well made guitar and it makes me want to play it more.

Martin that's the 44 million dollar question, they would sound great which ever PU you choose - I have the BL XR16's which sound pretty good to me.

Robert, I took off the E66 that was on mine and installed a Wallace Truetone. For me that made a big improvement in tone, especially from the 12th fret up. I found the E66...the one I had at least, sounded harsh and hissy on those high notes. The Truetone is sweet and pure. There is a bit of hum but it isn't bad at all and the trade-off is well worth it. I've gotten a lot of positive comments about the sound of my Carter.

Bill Myers,
I know this is a bit of the subject matter, but if you have lived in the capital region for a long time, do you remember Bob Klinger and George Rowe? I know that Bob passed away maybe 20 years ago, but I do not know about George.

I had never met Bobby Klinger, but my cousin was good friends with him. In fact he lived up the street from him and now owns Bob's MSA. I have heard many wonderful things about him and really wish I could have met him. There are alot of great musicians in this area. I did not know Geroge...

When I was first learning how to play, I used to go places where he was playing just to watch him. I was always asking him questions and he was always happy to answer. I had the pleasure of visiting him in his home in Enola on various occasions to sit with him and watch and learn.

Just to get this thread back on topic....I bought a second Carter yesterday. I liked the first one so much I picked up a three year old d10. I have to change the knee levers over to standard emmons, but this guitar is just as impressive as the first Carter I bought. It's now a two Carter family! I was reading another one of the messages on this thread about how nice it is to go without tuning every hour. I put the guitar in it's case. Loaded it in the car. Drove three hours home. Dragged it in and set it up and it was in tune! My old sho bud would go out of tune just sitting there for 15 minutes. These Carters are great!
[This message was edited by Bill Myers on 15 June 2005 at 08:09 AM.]

Michael, i haven't seen George Rowe for a long time but the last i knew he quit playing music after his wife passed away and never got back into it. If you want to call Henry Cassell, at 717-545-8592, he might be able to tell you more. TJH

I received my Carter S12U this past Wednesday. The difference between it and my other guitar is night and day. I have only owned three steel guitars in my life, and the Carter is the first brand new guitar I have ever bought. The tone just blows me away.

tb - You said you put Sho-Bud fretboards on your Carter. Do Carters have the same scale as a Sho-Bud? If not, you're going to have some intonation problems.

Hi Lee,

Both Shobud and Carter and also MSA use a 24" scale. So these fretboards are interchangeable. If Carter made white fretboards of course I would use one of those!!
