Lack of Video Instruction
I'm surprised at how few instructional videos seem to be available for pedal steel. I'm sure there must be more around than I'm aware of, but where? The only one I have is Bruce Bouton's video which is great if you're just starting out but I'd like to see more choices. I wonder why Bruce only did the one? I'd love to see some video courses by Paul Franklin, Buddy Emmons, Mike Johnson, Tommy White etc. I far prefer video instruction to books and CDs, I seem to absorb things much faster if someone shows me how rather than tells me how.

Tommy White and Paul Franklin both have videos available. They are advanced material, but worth it to see these guys explain what they feel is important.
Jeff Newman has instruction at all level. There are many more, I won't attempt to mention them all because I'm sure I'll forget someone.
Here a list from the SGC catalog.
I don't think there's any lack of PSG video instruction.

I bought the Bruce Bouton DVD out of curiosity wanting to learn something new.
I think this could have been a good instructional if it had been planned out better. He gets off to a good start on a couple of the instructionals, then seems to get off track. He plays some nice licks, taking the time to explain exactly how to play them, then rockets off on his own, which are the ones I wanted to learn
He's a great player, but I had trouble trying to figure out some of the dialogue as the audio track from his mike was very weak, however the instrument's audio sounded fine. Unfortunately there's no tablature included with the DVD, nor mention of where it can be obatined. My preference is the DVD format, it would be beneficial if these instructionals had numeric tabs on them so you could go back to an exact point on the DVD and replay when needed.
[This message was edited by Robert Salomone on 05 July 2005 at 12:20 AM.]

Paul Franklin has a video? What, where, when and how much?
John Hughey has videos, too. Be still, my credit card.

thanks,
Drew
