Chalker's rightmost floor pedal; Buddy? et al

Post by bob grossman »

On his earlier guitars, before the use of many knee levers, Chalker had this pedal as the last one on the right. Most of you with the "standard" C6 setup can get it.

Anyone understand it? It is an E/D polychord, but what else? Endings?

By 1980 Curly had eliminated the 8th-str. [F to F#] on that RKL.

No, John...

I have quite a few of Curly's setups starting with an early one from Fender. This was before knee levers. When I saw him in Las Vegas c. 1965, he was playing a Fender 2000 at the Lariat Club with about eleven pedals as I recall. He also had a ZB and thought it was the best of the custom builts "by far." I think until he got the crossover Sho-Bud and then the MSA, etc. the last floor pedal was as I described.

Then he started using knee levers, he had one to lower the A to Ab and one to both lower the A to Ab and the C to B. Then, he no longer needed the floor pedal as he could get the change another way.

In 1980 I sat with Curly in Linebaugh’s Restaurant here in Nashville and we went over his C6-setup, before I ordered my 1st. Franklin. At the time it was 7-Pedals & (4)-KL's. I'm sure like a lot of greats, he made many changes over time! Image

I can't imagine any use for a pedal like that. I guess I don't think like Curley Chalker!
