Nylon Tuning Nuts for 1/8" Pull Rods

Hello all,

I am looking for a source for nylon tuning nuts for a guitar with 1/8" pull rods. Most everything that I find is for 3/32" rods. Any idea where I could find new nylon tuning nuts, 1 1/2" long, for 1/8" rods?

Bill Fergusen might be able to help, he's a George L dealer, and he carries cool stuff like that, the other man that comes to mind is Bob himself maybe, he's got the steel forum store, check it out

I just buy tuning nuts for 7/64 rods and drill them out for 1/8 rods if needed. I have a MSA which has 1/8 rods and a GFI with 7/64 rods. That way I don't have to keep separate sets of tuning nuts.

Use a No. 29 drill for a tight fit.

Show Pro now has the accessory parts line, such as the tuning nuts, that George L's used to sell. I recall George L's had some listed for my Franklin, which uses 1/8" rods.

Michael Yahl and Jim Palenscar have them. BTW, if they are awful tight, they'll last longer

Thanks for that! I understand about the tight fit. What I didn't understand before is that most modern steels, including the new MSA's, use a thinner rod than my old 1973 MSA.

The old MSA's are 1/8', which is too thick to fit into the newer hex nuts that I got from Steel Guitar Network. Not sure when they made this change. This was a surprise to me, and I think to Alex too, as when you eyeball it, they look pretty much the same.

There's so much to learn, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

Many modern guitars use 7/64 or 3/32, and I think someone even went to 5/64.
I understand the desire to shed weight, but they start feeling insubstantial.

My Franklin uses 1/8" aluminum pull rods. Threaded 6-40 at the tuning nut end.
