My Sho-Bud Pro-1 is like yours Bob. When I bought it long ago it only had 2 knee levers, those two, RKL E to Eb, RKR E to F. Since then I put on 2 more knee levers. I'm adding a 5th pedal right now to lower both E strings to D.

Yes! And my U12 even went through a rebuild by its first owner, Tom Bradshaw, done for its owner at the time, and it kept the copedent. I kinda like it.Bill... You PLAY an MSA and left it the way the factory MADE it!!!
But then, I'm a perpetual neophyte on this instrument and haven't had the impetus to try other knee lever arrangements.
[This message was edited by Bill Llewellyn on 11 April 2005 at 07:25 PM.]
-

Bob, like many others on this thread, I grew up on MSA's, with E's down on RKR, E's up on RKL. I've tried other guitars quite a bit where those changes go on the left leg, but I find the following:
that really makes that left leg super busy. The ergonomics make sense, but I'm ALWAYS using E's up and down, and the rest are used much more occasionally. So I like the work my body has to do to be more balanced, which it is in my setup.
I commonly use E>F and pedal 2 for a II chord 3 frets down from open, and that's a real twist with today's common setup.
I also think there's a real advantage with those two most-used changes on the right knee, which you can then use in combo with a cluster of left KL's. With either E up or down KL, I can use any one of the 4 left KL's I have on my Mullen. I can even hit a hanging left KL and the left vertical, along with either right KL, for the maximum number of combinations. This just isn't possible with both E changes on the left.
There are still awkward moves on mine, there's no way to avoid that on any copedent with as many KL's as we're packing on these days. I note from the Mesa and Dallas shows that for most pro's, 8+8 is very common. It's nice having options, but sure gets tricky to play at times!

Bob,
I have the same set-up as you. I had my new MSA set-up that way in 1973. Been doing it that way every since. I bought a used S10 MSA last year which had them both on the left knee. Tried it that way fro a couple of months. Never could get used to it so I switched them.
[This message was edited by les green on 11 April 2005 at 11:56 PM.]

I drop the E's on RKL and raise them on LKL.
