Sho Bud Experts.. need changer info..

Post by Bob Carlucci »

I know some Sho Buds will not lower certain strings a full tone due to thier changer design.. I always, on every steel I own, lower the 3rd string a full tone on a pedal of all things. My Carter does it without breaking a sweat, MSA's no problem ,BUT my PROIII would NOT do it.. not even close with the stock changer.. I had to remove the changer, looked at the design, figure out what had to be done, and then took the changer to my machinist friend and had him machine the back of the fingers.

It was now BARELY able to make the change, but it still had trouble ,unless I used an .0115... Are all bud changers like this?? .. Anyone know which changers will have this problem and which ones won't??..... I am getting a ProI with a Superpro changer.. will that pull plain strings down a full tone? anybody familiar with Sho Bud changer desigs? bob
[This message was edited by Bob Carlucci on 24 March 2005 at 01:35 PM.]

Bob, I think your lowering return spring is too tight and it is allowing the raise finger to pull forward. Try loosening the spring, and if it has a raise helper spring take it off, back the nylon hex tuner way off and start over tuning the lower.

There were about 13 different changer designs; so to answer your question about are all Sho-bud changer/fingers the same> NO.
Can't help you on the superpro changer; I usually turn guys away when they want me to work on them; as I can't help that steel sound like a sho-bud and don't care for the parts.
